International Baccalaureate Organisation

The International Baccalaureate Organization (I.B.O.), a non-profit educational foundation founded in 1968, was developed by a group of international schools seeking to establish a common curriculum and university entry credential for geographically mobile students. Such educative model should emphasize critical thinking, encourage intercultural understanding and acceptance of others amongst young people. This is how a comprehensive curriculum for the last two years of the Secondary School that could be administered in any country, and that would be recognised by universities worldwide, was designed: the Diploma Programme.
The I.B.O. currently offers three programmes: the Primary Programme, the Middle Years Programme and the Diploma Programme as well as a wide range of services: curricular development and assessment systems, professional development activities for teachers and research on issues related to international education.
The fundamental objective of the I.B.O. is the forming of young people who are supportive, responsible, hungry for knowledge and capable of understanding their own culture and the values and lifestyles of others.
The I.B.O. has its head office in Geneva, Switzerland. The curriculum and assessment activities, as well as administration and finantial matters, are carried out in Cardiff (United Kindom), whilst research is carried out in Bath (United Kingdom).
